San Jose: Carjacking suspects arrested following pursuit

SAN JOSE — Four people were arrested Thursday in connection with a carjacking and several other violent crimes in San Jose following a land and air pursuit, police said.

Officers went to the area of Bird and Minnesota avenues about 5:35 p.m. to check out a suspicious vehicle. They found an empty Honda Odyssey that had been stolen and used in a carjacking, robbery and other crimes throughout the day, said San Jose police Officer Gina Tepoorten.

A silver Mitsubishi Endeavor linked to another carjacking was then spotted driving in the area.

Tepoorten said officers tried to stop the SUV and briefly gave chase when it sped off. The pursuit was handed off to the police department’s new helicopter, Air 3, which followed the Mitsubishi to the 1500 block of Prevost Street.

Officers took three of the SUV’s four occupants into custody without incident. A fourth suspect ran from the Mitsubishi but later surrendered to officers, Tepoorten said.
