Vallejo: I-80 toll plaza reopens after crash

VALLEJO — The California Highway Patrol is investigating a solo motorcycle crash that led officers to issue a Sig-alert on Sunday, closing six left-hand lanes of eastbound Interstate 80 at the toll plaza, authorities said.

Officers from the CHP’s Solano bureau responded to reports of the crash, which occurred just before 4:30 p.m. Sunday, and met paramedics and Vallejo firefighters at the toll plaza to find a damaged Kawasaki motorcycle with major front-end damage.

Officers closed down lanes to allow a CHP helicopter to safely land. Officers issued the alert at 4:35 p.m. for five lanes, with closure of the sixth lane at 4:55 p.m..

The motorcycle’s rider was flown to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek and was receiving treatment for major injuries, the CHP said. The alert was lifted and all lanes of the toll plaza reopened just after 6 p.m..

No word was immediately available on the rider’s condition or whether alcohol was involved.
