Two vegetation fires and a vehicle fire ignited late Saturday afternoon in Antioch, where temperatures reached 100 degrees. Multiple structures are on fire and at least two people were transported to the hospital, according to the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District.
According to Fire Marshall Robert Marshall, a fire broke out at approximately 5:10 p.m. in the 4300 block of Deer Hill Lane, south of Kaiser Permanente Medical Center. It began as a vehicle fire that spread to a structure and surrounding vegetation.
No report yet on the size of the fire or injuries, but Marshall said that the structures appears to be residences. He confirmed sheriff’s helicopters are on the scene.
Another fire, on Vista Grande near Hillcrest in Antioch, is estimated to have started around 5:35 p.m. and contains about 10 acres of grass. No structures are at risk and no word on containment at this time.
A vehicle fire in Bay Point that started at 4:45 p.m. is also yet to be contained.
